Yield: 2 Pizza loafs
1 loaf (1 lb) frozen bread or pizza dough, thawed
2 egg yolks (reserve egg whites for later)
1 T. grated Parmesan cheese (or 6 Cheese blend)
1 T. olive oil
1/2 T. oregano
16 oz. sliced pepperoni
4 C. (8oz) shredded mozzarella cheese
Optional toppings: 4 oz can mushrooms or fresh, 1 green pepper diced, 3 oz olives, bacon bits, browned Italian sausage, pineapple tidbits.
1. On a greased counter, roll out dough into a 15x10 inch rectangle. Pick up by folding over your forearm and place dough on a foil lined cookie sheet.
2. In a bowl, combine the egg yolks, parmesan cheese, oil, and Italian seasoning. Brush over the dough.
3. Sprinkle with pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, pepper, and olives and any other toppings. Roll up, jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seam to seal and tuck ends under.
4. Place seam side down; with a knife make slits every 2 inches along the top of the dough. Brush the top with egg whites, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
5. Wrap and freeze 1 loaf with plastic wrap (label 350, 35 min.) and bake the other at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Warm the pizza sauce and serve with the sliced loaf.
To serve frozen: Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes and serve warm with pizza sauce. (Sauce can be frozen and placed next to the pizza loaf.)
Pizza Sauce:
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 T. oregano
1 t. minced garlic
